If there is anyone in Indiana who knows the whereabouts of this stallion, please msg/email me. I was forced to give him up after an auto accident left me unable to work and pay his bills in 2010. He has not had any registered babies since he left me in 2010. If he's still alive, I NEED to know.
He and I had a special rapport. I understood him. After his 1st breeding season in Canada, he bred 6 mares and only got one mare in foal. I figured out he had a hind leg injury, and had trouble staying on a mare. I treated his injuries and then got a much higher % of mares pregnant.
To those who don't know, Cat Ridge is the son of the late great Storm Cat. His half sister won $1.5M and an Eclipse Award winner.
Yea sure, Cat didn't do as well on the racetrack, but that was due to an early injury. I love finding horses no one else wants! I can sometimes find a diamond in the rough!
If someone can at the VERY LEAST let me know he's still alive.
I remember how intelligent Cat Ridge was. In 2007 we didn't have access to a stud barn, so we improvised by using his paddock to cover mares. I had hooked a chain shank on him and took him to a certain part of his paddock and stood him facing his mare. I would give the owners time to set up the mare at a safe distance. I would then walk Cat up to his mare. After a couple of mares, he'd see me coming and take off. I, at 1st, thought he was keeping me from catching him. I soon realized Cat was 'going to his mark' like an actor on a stage. He'd go to the same spot I took him to and let me catch him (unless he thought we weren't doing things to his liking).
He knew who his babies were, too. He never showed aggression to his one son, Landsdown Cat. At 7 months old the little cuss escaped from me and started toward the other mares that weren't Cat's. Cat was in his paddock that attached to the barn. I yelled "Cat call your son, don't let him go down there".
Cat did neigh to his son and got him to go back to him. Cat Ridge on the inside of the paddock fence and his son on the outside of the fence. I then told Cat to "take his son around to where I could corner" his boy. If Cat had gone to the left, that would have given the boy access to the lane to the main busy road. But Cat took him to the right. Around to the part of the barn I could/did corner his son. I was amazed that this stallion did everything I asked without me being specific. There were 5 other stallions on that farm (we all leased space on this farm), so if Cat's son had gone the wrong way, there was real danger!
One stallion did escape his paddock one day and broke into Cat Ridge's paddock. Cat Ridge kicked butt!! Hardly a mark on Cat, but the other stallion was soooooo beat up! Many stitches needed for that other stallion.
That's not the oddest part. Even with a gaping hole in Cat Ridge's paddock fence, he chose to not escape. I had put 2 of his mares in a nearby paddock and he was happy just to be near them.
I could tell more, but I need to get off here.
PLEASE help me find Cat Ridge. I know he was sold at Fasig-tipton Feb 2010 and was sold to a Elizabeth Cox. and taken to her farm in Indiana.
